The Greek word for "ruler" or "lord"(archon). The PRS Archon is a 2-channel amplifier that is designed to provide versatile overdriven tones and sparkling cleans with ample headroom. It features a lead channel with five gain stages before the master volume, allowing it to produce full and lush distortion for a wide range of genres from Classic Rock to Metal. The clean channel of the Archon delivers rich tones that maintain clarity even at high volumes, and it offers plenty of headroom, making it an ideal platform for using pedals. The amp is known for its remarkable responsiveness and excellent note separation, whether you're playing on the clean channel or engaging in heavy chugging on the lead channel. 

The PRS Archon amplifier is equipped with two 6L6 tubes, which contribute to its full and articulate tone. These tubes provide a smooth high end and tight low end, allowing for chugging, distortion, and heavy tones without excessive saturation or harshness.

The control layout of the Archon follows a "no flash or trash" approach, designed to offer detailed and intuitive tone shaping. Each channel on the amp includes volume, treble, middle, bass, and master volume controls, as well as a bright switch. The 3-band EQ enables players to finely adjust their desired tone, while the volume and master controls work in tandem to control the amp's distortion and overall loudness.

The bright switch acts as a treble boost, adding a shine to the high-end frequencies without crossing into harsh territory. It enhances the amp's brightness without causing an overly piercing or "icepick" sound. The global presence and depth controls in the power amp section of the Archon modify the feedback network of the amp, unlocking the potential of the high and low frequencies.

Increasing the Presence control releases more high-mid and treble frequencies, bringing the amp's tone forward in the mix. Depending on the settings of the tone stack and volume, the Presence control can affect the gain, texture, and loudness of the high-end, resulting in a wilder and more three-dimensional (or "present") sound.

On the other hand, the Depth control adds low-end frequencies and introduces a resonance that shapes the Archon's tone in a more three-dimensional manner. This control adds depth and richness to the sound, further enhancing the overall character of the amplifier.
