Eddie Van Halen has established a recognizable identity for his guitars by infusing them with his own unique touch. Through his meticulous modifications and personal touch, Eddie has produced some of the most unforgettable guitars in the history of rock 'n' roll, showcasing his visionary expertise.

 

The infamous "Shark" guitar is instantly recognizable as a key part of Van Halen's iconic sound, just as tapping is integral to Eddie's guitar style. The unique angular shape was achieved by cutting out a piece of the body, creating a jagged, tooth-like edge. The guitar was then painted silver and adorned with Eddie's signature striped pattern using tape. For the finishing touch, burgundy Schwinn bicycle paint was applied. The final result was first debuted during Van Halen's 1978 World Tour, but gained widespread recognition and adoration from fans when it appeared on the back cover of the band's 1980 album, Women and Children First.
